Aftercare organizations to offer Saratoga Dark Day tours

Long Shadows Farm and ACTT Naturally will host visiting hours and tours every Tuesday from 10:30 a.m. – 2:30 p.m., July 22 through Aug. 26. Located 30 minutes from Saratoga Springs, in Cambridge, NY, Long Shadows Farm is an expansive and serene equestrian center and home to two Thoroughbred aftercare programs: Long Shadows Charitable Foundation and ACTT Naturally.

The Tuesday tours will include demonstrations in Thoroughbred retraining, introductions to retired Thoroughbred racehorses and presentations about Thoroughbred aftercare and second careers for Thoroughbred racehorses.

“Long Shadows Farm is extraordinary and the perfect place for retraining off-track Thoroughbreds and conducting our equine-centered healing programs for veterans and their families,” said Valerie Buck, president of ACTT Naturally. “We are excited to have horse lovers and racing fans come out to see the work that we do at this unique facility.”

“Many Thoroughbreds are not immediately ready for second careers, or they may never be,” said Quinn Porter, equine care manager and trainer for Long Shadows. “At Long Shadows, we give the Thoroughbreds the time they need before starting a second career or settling into a herd environment for lifetime sanctuary. We look forward to sharing our rehabilitation and retraining model with interested visitors and introducing them to our friendly horses.”

Long Shadows Charitable Foundation is dedicated to helping horses in need and partnering with the Thoroughbred racing industry to provide forever homes and second careers to racehorses at the ends of their careers.

Every Tuesday, training demonstrations will take place at 11 a.m. and 1:30 p.m., followed by a Q&A session. Farm tours will depart at noon and 2:30 p.m.

Visitors are required to register in advance by emailing Valerie@acttnaturally.org, calling 518.928.6161 or visiting acttnaturally.org or LongShadowsHorses.org.

Donations, to be shared equally among the two charities, are encouraged.
