CNY Metal Detecting Club features Civil War reenactor

The EARTH Metal Detecting Club of Central New York will meet on June 2 at the Dunham Public Library on Main Street in Whitesboro. The meeting starts at 6:30 p.m. but if you get there a little early you can witness the organized chaos of everyone bringing in and setting up the finds that they have made since the last meeting.

Featured at this meeting will be John Tryon, who has been a Civil War reenactor for over 35 years. His program will focus on the common Union soldier, his accoutrements, his weaponry and his camp life.

As a reenactor, Tryon has served his regiment as Sergeant, First Sergeant, First Lieutenant and Captain. As the Civil War is the topic of the meeting, members are asked to bring in some of their Civil War era finds. One such find is the Civil War era cannonball that is bigger than a basketball, found by Mike Parker on Memorial Day 2021.

The June 2 meeting includes our second competition (of eight competitions) that will decide who will be the Treasure Hunter of the Year for 2025. If you are interested in history, metal detecting, the Civil War or if you have lost a ring, you are welcome to attend our meeting.

Visit our website at www.earthmetaldetecting.com or find us on Facebook.

For more information, contact Vice President Mike Parker at 315.795.0165.
