Rome Rescue Mission seeks community support to provide Thanksgiving meals
As families across the region prepare to gather around the table, the Rome Rescue Mission is asking the community to help make Thanksgiving possible for local individuals and families facing hunger and hardship.
Donations of food and financial support will help the Rome Rescue Mission provide warm, traditional holiday meals to neighbors in need. A gift of just $7.50 can provide one Thanksgiving meal. Whether a donor gives the cost of a single meal, supplies for our family gathering or a larger contribution, every gift helps the Rome Rescue Mission welcome people with nourishment, compassion and love during the holiday season.
Most-needed items include turkeys, canned vegetables, fruit, soup, tuna, chicken, stuffing mix, instant potatoes, gravy, pasta, rice, snacks, oatmeal, peanut butter, jelly, pasta sauce, shelf-stable snacks and other desserts. Donations of any amount are welcome and will help the Rome Rescue Mission meet the increased need that comes with the holiday season.
“No one in our community should go hungry on Thanksgiving,” said Lisa Patierno, executive director of the Rome Rescue Mission. “A donated turkey, a bag of groceries or a financial gift does more than fill a plate. It reminds someone who may be struggling that they are seen, valued and not alone. We are grateful for every neighbor, business, church and organization that helps us share the warmth of Thanksgiving.”
The Rome Rescue Mission encourages community members, civic groups, schools, congregations and local businesses to organize food collections, sponsor meals or make a financial gift. Every contribution, large or small, can help place a Thanksgiving meal within reach for a neighbor who needs it.
How to help: Food donations may be dropped off at the Rome Rescue Mission Monday – Friday at 413 East Dominick St., Rome, from 9 a.m. – 6 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday from 9 a.m. – 2 p.m. Financial gifts may be mailed to P.O. The Rome Rescue Mission is a Christian organization committed to assisting the least, the last and the lost.
