Bishopp named NY Beef Promoter of the Year

Bishopp named NY Beef Promoter of the Year

The New York Beef Council (NYBC) is proud to announce that Troy Bishopp of Deansboro, NY, has been named the 2025 Beef Promoter of the Year. This award recognizes producers who go above and beyond raising beef to actively educate consumers, engage communities and promote the industry across New York State.

Bishopp’s dedication to sharing his knowledge, mentoring farmers and connecting the public to the story of beef production exemplifies the spirit of this honor.

Affectionately known as “The Grass Whisperer,” Bishopp brings more than 40 years of hands-on experience in grazing management and beef production. He operates Bishopp Family Farm, a sixth-generation Century Farm in Deansboro, with his wife Corrine and family, raising 100% grass-finished beef and providing custom grazing services for fellow producers.

Beyond his own farm, Bishopp’s influence reaches across NYS and the Northeast through his role as resource manager for the Northeastern Region of the National Grazing Lands Coalition and decades of on-the-ground work with Soil & Water Conservation District partners. His hands-on technical assistance has helped hundreds of farmers implement practical, profitable and sustainable grazing systems in beef production.

Bishopp is also a passionate communicator, freelance writer/photographer and advocate for beef. Through unique opportunities with the NYBC, he has supported on-the-ground engagement at the Beef Month Proclamation, helped coordinate producer marketing workshops, facilitated pasture walks and connected farmers, youth, consumers and policymakers to the importance of beef production on the land for NY in a genuine and relatable way.

His work is guided by his philosophy of “linger grazing” – a practice rooted in observing the little things and understanding how they influence the bigger picture. This approach leads to better outcomes for land, livestock and communities while harnessing the strength of NY’s grassland forage base and the power of ruminants to deliver protein-packed nutrition from pasture to plate.

The NYBC is proud to present Bishopp with the 2025 Beef Promoter of the Year award, recognizing his dedication, passion and leadership in promoting NY beef.

Editor’s note: Congratulations goes to our amazing GW! Country Folks appreciates all you have done and all you do for us and our readers. – CL
