The African swine fever (ASF) “I Protect Pigs” photo contest is back and now accepting entries.
Brought to you by USDA’s Animal & Plant Health Inspection Services (APHIS), this contest promotes the importance of good biosecurity behaviors by encouraging the public to submit a photo of owner/pig safety practices in action.
Prevention is the only cure for ASF, and we want to see pig owners show off their best biosecurity behavior for a chance to win.
Budding photographers have until midnight on Feb. 14 to submit photos of biosecurity best practices. Winners will be featured on APHIS’s website and social media channels. Again, the key to a winning photo is capturing how to help protect farms and pigs from ASF.
Here are a few picture-perfect ways to safeguard America’s swine:
- Limiting on-farm traffic
- Wearing clean clothes and shoes around pigs
- Washing on-farm equipment and vehicles
- Preventing contact with feral pigs
- Storing feed where wildlife can’t get it
- Not eating people-food near animals
Winners will be announced during the week of March 3, in celebration of National Pig Day on March 1.
