Art sale to benefit local farmland and forest conservation

CAMBRIDGE, NY – Buy art to save farms – that is what your purchase at Landscapes for Landsake will do. Since 1990 the Agricultural Stewardship Association (ASA) has worked to accomplish a singular mission: protect the rich soils and agricultural landscape in Washington and Rensselaer counties for future generations. In that time, ASA has managed to conserve over 32,200 acres on 177 properties.

For the last 22 years, a significant source of funding has come from the annual Landscapes for Landsake Art Sale and Exhibition – a celebration of the land by an incredible community of regional artists.

Landscapes for Landsake is this region’s largest art-buying event of the season and ASA’s largest fundraiser of the year. Participating artists generously donate 50% of their proceeds to support ASA’s conservation work. This year’s exhibition features the work of 52 artists. Approximately 300 works of art will be displayed in the gallery at the historic barn at Maple Ridge, and over 500 works will be available on www.LandscapesforLandsake.com. Many of the artists will be on hand at the gallery to discuss their work on Oct. 12 and 13.

The public sale opens on Oct. 12 from noon – 5 p.m. at Maple Ridge, 172 State Route 372 in Cambridge. Saturday’s admission is $10 and includes a glass of wine or beer for those 21 and up. (Additional wine and beer will be available for $5 a glass.) Drop-ins are welcome, or you may purchase a ticket in advance at www.agstewardship.org/events. The gallery is also open from noon – 4 p.m. on Oct. 13, free of charge.

The online sale will be available Oct. 12 – Nov. 8 at www.LandscapesforLandsake.com. The website features elegantly designed collections from each artist, bios, videos and much more. Shop for art from the comfort of your home.

Terry Teitelbaum

This year’s featured artist is Terry Teitelbaum. Her painting, “Tucked Away,” is featured on the event’s marketing materials. Terry said, “It’s an honor for me to have been chosen as the featured artist for the Landscapes for Landsake show this year. I love living in this beautiful countryside, with all the changing fields and rolling hills, and I try to capture the spirit of this natural world through my vibrant use of paint and layers of texture. It’s been a privilege to help ASA conserve farmland in our area. I hope you’ll stop by the show and say ‘Hi.’ I’d love to meet you.”

“Tucked Away” is 15 inches tall by 30 inches wide, and made with oil.

Renee Bouplon, ASA executive director, explained, “This event celebrates the connection between the art and the landscapes we are working to protect. It’s what makes Landscapes for Landsake so special. The success of this event has had a tremendous impact on ASA’s ability to protect local farms and forests.”

This year’s artists include Deborah Bayly, Susan Beadle, Gigi Begin, John Begin, Paul Buckhurst, Eden Compton Clay, Donald Cook, Susan Coon, Deborah Cotrone, Gary Fifer, Rachel Garrison, Janine Gibson, Margaret Horn, Carolyn Justice, Susie Kane-Kettlewell, Pam Keniry, Thomas Kerr, Clarence King, Rose Klebes, Karen Koziol, Matthew Lerman, Rahe Lulla, Mark Madden, Adriano Manocchia, Melissa Mansfield, Robert Moylan, Lynne Oddo, Harry Orlyk, Leslie Parke, Leslie Peck, Pat Posillico, Terry Preisner, Susan Reynolds, Tom Ryan, Mark Samu, Pam Short, Seline Skoug, Susan M.
