Happy National Hobby Month

Happy National Hobby Month

New year, new habits – that’s the idea behind National Hobby Month. Every January, we’re encouraged to try something new and, more importantly, stick with it. As a regular rural resident or a new one, there are countless ways to try something new in 2022.

If you’re a regular gardener, try expanding your garden this year and plant some new varieties. If you’ve never raised chickens before, give it a shot! Or maybe rabbits. Or goats. Build some bat boxes so our nighttime friends have a safe space to sleep. Get into woodworking! Plan some hikes. A hobby is anything you participate in just for fun.

If you’re looking for some tips or classes on learning how to do something new, state Extension offices are your way to go. They offer tons of low cost or no cost sessions, both in person and virtual, so you can figure out how to do something you’ve never done before (or learn how to do something you love even better).

Below is a list of links to the Country Culture area’s Extension offices:

  • Maine
  • New Hampshire
  • Vermont
  • Massachusetts
  • Connecticut
  • Rhode Island
  • New York
  • New Jersey
  • Pennsylvania
  • Delaware
  • Maryland
  • Virginia
  • North Carolina
  • Ohio

And, if you end up trying something new during Hobby Month, let us know about it! We’d love to hear from you.
